Biography
Praised as a “sophisticated artist” with a “gorgeous voice” and “stratospheric vocals” (Winnipeg Free Press), soprano Katherine Mayba has performed with a variety of companies including: Manitoba Underground Opera, Opera NUOVA, Halifax Opera, Orford Musique, the Ukrainian Art Song Project, and as a member of the chorus with Manitoba Opera. She has been hailed as a “multi-talented, charismatic [and] riveting” performer (Opera Canada) in her role as Amore in L’incoronazione di Poppea. Other notable roles include Halka (Halka), both Pamina and Queen of the Night (The Magic Flute), Le Feu (L’Enfant et les Sortilèges), Lena (Svadba), Titania (The Fairy Queen) and Ilia (Idomeneo).
A multidisciplinary musician, Katherine obtained her Master of Music in Voice Performance at the University of Manitoba and holds her ARCT Performance Diploma in Voice, Piano and Violin from The Royal Conservatory of Music. Katherine is grateful to have been awarded the University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowship. In addition to performing, Katherine is actively engaged in community outreach through Manitoba Opera’s School Workshops where she works with students in English, French and Ukrainian. Katherine is passionate about chamber music and enjoys collaborating as a vocalist with musicians in recital settings and recording projects.
